As they work on the Camaro, Hale and Merrick get word from Macy that Charlotte has returned to live with her mom. Agent Garth Werner interviews Merrick, and tragedy seals the fate of the Dawsonville Diner.

Hale explains how he put the cord around Evan’s neck, and Charlotte’s mom gets out of jail, ending her time in Dawson County.

Hale and Charlotte’s kidnapping is covered in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and reporter Urie Feldman agrees to dig into Hale’s family history.

Chapter Seventeen

Charlotte gets a letter from her grandmama, and the police pull Evan’s truck from Lake Lanier.

Chapter Sixteen

Hale and Charlotte talk seriously about their future, and Tessa might have a chance to buy the Dawsonville Diner.

Chapter Fifteen

Urie Feldman interviews Hale, Charlotte tells Hale she thinks she might have a gift of healing, and Merrick Malone assures Hale Evan will not be coming back.

Chapter Fourteen

After saving Hale from a bad asthma attack, they both fight back against Evan and escape the motel room, but the only thing clear about their future now is their dedication to each other.

Chapter Thirteen

Evan takes Hale and Charlotte to breakfast, but they don’t have a choice. Tessa calls the police, and when they find cocaine residue, she doesn’t have a choice either.

Chapter Twelve

Hale figures out Evan is making Crack in the trailer, and he warns his mom to watch her back.
